October-Review-November-Watchlist

Six moves, one thread: regulation is defining what a compliant installation is.

October is over — and the policy density in home storage was clearly higher than in previous months. Here's the month condensed, and what to watch in November.

THE MONTH IN FOUR MOVES
• Germany (2 Oct): Bundesnetzagentur approved the MiSpeL rules — storage can participate more flexibly in markets, and bidirectional chargers are treated as storage.
• South Africa (7 Oct): the Ministry prioritised BESS and gas, with 4,600 MW of battery storage in IRP procurement.
• Greece (9 Oct): the EU cleared a near-€1bn investment framework, including €200M for battery storage.
• UK (15 Oct): BS 7671 Amendment 4 took effect — lofts, bedrooms and escape routes are off-limits.
• Poland (20 Oct): ~PLN 1bn subsidy window opened, with a ≥10 kWh battery threshold.
• Australia (28–29 Oct): All Energy Australia ran in Melbourne; installs passed 500,000.

The thread: regulation is shifting from "encourage installation" to "define what a compliant installation is."

THREE NUMBERS SHOWING DEMAND HASN'T STALLED
• 39.07 GWh of global residential storage shipped in H1 2026, up 137.67% YoY (InfoLink).
• 276,011 units installed in Australia in H1, with 153 batteries per 100 new solar systems.
• Poland's window runs to 1 October 2027, or until funds run out.

The 153 ratio is the most informative single figure this month: Australia's demand has moved from "new solar with a battery" to "existing solar retrofitting." That structural shift matters more for channel strategy than headline growth.

NOVEMBER WATCHLIST
1. Greece's HEDNO technical requirements (expected by 31 October) — the near-term trigger for plug-in solar and household battery access.
2. Poland's first application data — volume will set channel stocking rhythm.
3. UK implementation feedback — how workable the 1-metre clearance rule proves in practice.
4. Post-show moves in Australia — signings, local stock, certification progress. Verifiable actions only.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR SUPPLIERS
Markets are stratifying: Australia rewards install efficiency, Europe rewards provable compliance, emerging markets reward reliability. Service capability — compatibility lists, compliance documentation, installation guidance — is now a pre-sale condition. And during policy windows, delivery certainty beats price.
