Three lanes, two checklists: turn two days on the floor into reusable judgement.
All Energy Australia opens in Melbourne today. Two days, hundreds of booths — easy to walk, easy to forget.
The real output of a show isn't brochures. It's reusable judgement. Walk three lanes, carry one question each.
LANE 1 — Technology: has the default changed?
High-voltage 51.2V platforms already dominate Australian residential installs. Verify the details: how deep is the safety architecture, and is there third-party test documentation? How does modular expansion work — does adding a battery mean replacing the unit? Are cycle-life figures measured or nameplate? Three booths will tell you where the industry sits.
LANE 2 — Compliance: can it actually be installed?
Australian states differ on grid approval and installation rules. Ask four things: which local certifications, covering which states? Who prepares grid-connection paperwork, and how long does approval take? Are there installation-location constraints? Where do spare parts ship from, and in how many days? The first two decide whether you can sell. The last two decide whether it goes wrong after the sale.
LANE 3 — Channel: structure beats price
Australia's installer network is mature and concentrated. Find out how partnership works: direct importer or local distribution? MOQs and lead times? Can delivery commitments be written into the contract during a subsidy window? In a subsidy-driven market, stockouts hurt channel relationships more than a 5% price gap.
