From a 10 kWh capacity line to a loft ban to 500,000 installs in Australia — where the home storage market stands at month-end.
Three policy moves, two markets crossing milestones — October was a defining month for home storage. Here's what actually changed.
POLAND — 10 kWh draws the capacity line
Applications opened on 20 October for roughly PLN 1 billion (≈US$258M) in home battery subsidies, running to 1 Oct 2027 or until funds run out. The ≥10 kWh floor excludes smaller units, concentrating incremental demand in the mid-to-large residential band. Target customers already have solar — this is a retrofit market.
BS 7671 Amendment 4 took effect on 15 October. Lofts, bedrooms, escape routes and basements without external access are off-limits; outdoor units must sit ≥1 m from doors, windows and vents. The design sequence has flipped — first ask where it goes, then how big.
AUSTRALIA — Past 500,000, growth shifts to retrofits
Cumulative installs have passed 500,000. H1 2026 alone added 276,011 units (+52%). The telling number: 153 batteries for every 100 new solar systems — meaning existing solar owners are the engine, not new installs. Funding sits at A$7.2B, targeting 2 million homes by 2030.
The common thread? Regulation is moving from "encourage installation" to "define what a good installation is." For suppliers, compliance is becoming product-market fit.
